Hello, and welcome! My name is Marlène Rak; I have worked in photography since 2014. I have gone from shooting portraiture and performance photography pretty exclusively on B&W film, to venturing into the realm of colours while still hauling big, old cameras across town and beyond, to studying commercial photography and wanting to combine film with digital and portraiture with table-top photography, to re-evaluating my business model and dedicating myself exclusively to commercial, product photography in 2020-21 during the pandemic…
It is now mid-2022. After these years living and breathing photography solely, I am now also working as an academic librarian, something I had been wanting to do since completing my Masters in information studies back in 2009. I have felt passionate about information at large, and more specifically, about the sources and nature of information and the interconnections between information, cultures, languages, education and the media for very many years.
Life has come full circle and the state of this website is very much a transient one.
I am taking this opportunity to re-evaluate my work and reflect on my journey as a photographer. Digging deep in my personal archives, I am looking for patterns, clues and directions.
This is going to be an interesting journey. Come and ride with me to discover what the future holds.
